Dr. Simon Raphael

Dr. Simon Raphael completed his medical training and a Residency in Anatomical Pathology at the University of Western Ontario. He did fellowship training in Endocrine Pathology at the University of Toronto and received his Master’s of Education from OISE/UofT in 2004.  Prior to becoming Chief of Pathology and Director of Laboratories at North York General Hospital in 2013 he spent 10 on staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital in London and 13 years at Sunnybrook Health Sciences and Women’s College Hospitals. 

He focused his academic career on education and served five years as Program Director of the Residency Training Program in Pathology at the University of Toronto, where he holds the rank of Associate Professor. 

He has a longstanding interest in quality as it applies to medical practice. He has served as an Examiner for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and as an assessor for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Dr. Raphael has also co-chaired the Corporate Quality Committee, sat on Board Quality and has been Vice Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee for the last three years.
