North York General Hospital is recognized for offering a wide range of mental health legal services that meet the specific needs of adults and their families. These services assist people experiencing mental health difficulties and who are involved in the legal system.

Community and Legal Aid Service Program (CLASP)

North York General Hospital's Community and Legal Aid Service Program, located at the Branson Ambulatory Care Centre, is provided by supervised students of the Osgoode Hall Law School in partnership with the our Mental Health Program. The program assists patients of the hospital who, for example, may require assistance with:

  • Income Support
  • Housing Issues
  • Legal Issues
  • Immigration and Refugee Issues
  • Youth Issue

    Mental Health and Justice Treatment and Support Services

    North York General Hospital's Mental Health and Justice Treatment and Support Services provides people who have mental health difficulties and who are involved in the legal system. Our psychiatry and social work team offer:

    • Counseling
    • Psychiatric assessment
    • Treatment
    • Advocacy
    • Anger management group counseling

    Intensive Case Management

    North York General Hospital's Intensive Case Management (ICM) Program is committed to serving adults in Toronto who are experiencing serious mental health difficulties and are involved with the Ontario Court of Justice in North York. We provide the following IMC services:

    • Outreach for hard to serve clients
    • Initial assessment, engagement and development of recovery plan
    • Legal system support and advocacy
    • Skills teaching
    • Crisis intervention
    • Psychiatry
    • Support network development Linkages to financial, social, vocational and recreational programs

    Housing Support

    North York General Hospital's Housing Support Intensive Case Management (HS-ICM) program serves adults experiencing mental health difficulties currently involved in the legal system who are homeless or otherwise in need of housing. The program is offered in partnership with the Toronto Branch - Canadian Mental Health Association, Toronto Branch, and provides the following services:

    • Initial assessment, engagement and development of recovery plan
    • Skills teaching and support to maintain successful tenancy
    • Legal system support and advocacy
    • Crisis intervention
    • Psychiatry
    • Support network development
    • Connections to financial, social, vocational and recreational programs
