A multidisciplinary team works together with patients and their families to provide the best care.
Young patients staying on the Paediatric Unit benefit from the care offered by paediatric hospitalists. These physicians provide care on the unit for seven days in a row. This enables children, teens and their families to have a consistent doctor responsible for meeting their medical needs.
Being at the hospital can be a scary time for young patients. To address these concerns, we have three steps in place:
- Family Advisory Committee — To provide us with the patient and family's perspective on what we can do to enhance the patient's stay.
- Pain policy — To reduce and/or eliminate any pain in the treatment.
- Child life specialist — To help ease some of the anxieties children and teenagers face in hospital, using distraction therapy and medical play.
