Happy New Year! I hope people had a good break although I realize that the memories may already be fading a bit. We had a very busy holiday period and have remained busy this month including the burst water pipe in the ED. Again my thanks to all of you who work so hard everyday across the entire organization to provide excellent care even in difficult moments.
As many of you know, our last strategic plan ended roughly a year ago and was extended by a year. It is time to start thinking about the development of a new strategy. I've started some very early work on this and have pulled together a working group to help develop the planning process for engaging staff, physicians and volunteers as well as health care partners, patients and community stakeholders.
Your input will play a critical role in shaping our strategy. If you have any early thoughts either about the process of developing the plan or what we might want to think about in the plan itself, please don't hesitate to let me know firstname.lastname@example.org. Again there will be many chances for input.
I want to close by sharing a recent opinion piece I wrote in the Toronto Star, which suggests some key areas of focus for our health care system in the year ahead. Some of these are themes that may also be helpful as we start thinking through the strategy development process.
