Patient- and Family-Centred Care

To ensure we are putting patients first, North York General Hospital makes it a priority to grow our culture of Patient- and Family-Centred Care.

At North York General, we partner with our patients and families; working WITH them instead of doing TO or FOR them. We are learning to see through the eyes of our patients and families so we can make their experience the best it can be.

Our culture of Patient- and Family-Centred Care is growing, thanks to the efforts of our Patient and Family Advisory Program, which includes Patient and Family Advisors, Patient and Family Advisory Forums, staff, physician and volunteer Patient- and Family-Centred Care Champions.

Patient and Family Advisory Forums

Working in partnership with North York General leadership, Patient and Family Advisory Forums ensure the needs and priorities of patients and families are considered and incorporated into matters that impact them. Learn more about NYGH's Patient and Family Advisory Forums.

Patient and Family Advisors

Patient and Family Advisors share their unique thoughts and perspectives to ensure the voices of patients and families are heard, considered and included in the hospital's programs and plans for the future. Become a Patient and Family Advisor.

Patient- and Family-Centred Care Champions

North York General has developed a training program for staff, physicians and volunteers to become Patient- and Family-Centred Care Champions. Champions help develop our culture by putting into practice the philosophy and principles of Patient- and Family-Centred Care in every interaction they have with patients and families. Champions work across our hospital at our General site and the Branson Ambulatory Care Centre.

At North York General, Patient & Family Centred Care means: 1) Partnering with you and your family (as defined by you); 2) Respecting you; 3) Listening to you; 4) Informing you; and 5) Supporting you to make the best decisions about your care. Putting you and your family first in everything we do.
