Master Planning

North York General Hospital (NYGH) is planning for the future by looking at a variety of different factors, including balancing new service delivery models and infrastructure modernization with increasing patient volumes and our community’s overall health care needs and expectations. This plan is what is known as a Master Plan, which becomes our roadmap for future physical growth. A Master Plan is one of the key steps required in a multi-stage process to gain support from the Ministry of Health (MOH) for capital (physical building) expansion.

Master planning isn’t just about thinking about building a new structure but really imagining the future of health care delivery and the models of care that we will need with factors that include a changing population, technology, medical knowledge and patient expectations. Understandably, this planning exercise is very complex and takes into account countless internal consultations and discussions with all programs and services as well as with external community partners and government officials.
