Accommodation

Your room on the Mother and Baby Unit will be booked according to the availability of the accommodation you requested when you registered on admission to the hospital. If you have decided to change your request, let your labour nurse know. All room requests are based on availability. If your requested room is not available when you arrive on the Mother and Baby Unit, your name will be placed on a waiting list and you will be offered another room when one becomes available. Someone who will support and help the new mother is welcome to stay overnight, however sleeping accommodations for guests are only available in private rooms.

Family presence

Through consultation with our Patient and Family Advisors, we have found that individual preferences are quite varied regarding family presence during the postpartum hospital stay. Some new parents prefer to have set hours designated to spend with family so that they will have time to prepare themselves for their visitors. Some parents prefer to have their family and friends choose when it is convenient for them to be with their loved ones in the hospital. Please take some time in advance to think about how family presence in the hospital will work best for you and share your wishes with your nurse so that we may support you to meet your needs.

Meals

The hospital provides three meals a day using the "Steamplicity" system. Dietary staff will give you the opportunity to make your own meal choices from their nutritious and varied menu. The meals are prepared in a kitchen centre right on the Mother and Baby Unit using a special microwave. This process ensures you receive a hot, delicious meal of your choice.
