With over 100,000 visits annually, North York General Hospital’s Charlotte & Lewis Steinberg Emergency is a very busy Emergency Department (ED). A booming diverse community has led to a steady increase in its patient volumes and the hospital is currently renovating the area to better meet the needs of patients and families.
This redesign project will directly impact ED wait times and is meant to improve this metric as we cope with a growing and aging population. In addition, the redevelopment will address the challenges associated with serving patients with acute mental illness in the ED environment, through the remodel of mental health crisis rooms to create a safer and welcoming atmosphere. Facility redesign in the ED will not only contribute to improvements in the quality of care offered within this department, but will have a positive impact upon the patient experience.
