Murray obtained his undergraduate degree and law degrees at McGill and was the provincial gold medalist in his year of admission to the Ontario Bar. He is a corporate commercial lawyer and trusted business adviser whose 40 years of practice has spanned all areas of business law including advising on M&A transactions, business financings, and partnership and shareholder arrangements. He also advises and has published articles on corporate governance matters including board and committee structures, processes and strategic planning and has chaired the hospital's Governance Committee as well as the Governance Renewal Task Force.
He is the current Chair of the North York General Hospital Board of Governors and sits on all of the hospital's committees as well as on the board of the North York General Foundation. In addition to his work at NYGH, he serves on several other private company boards on behalf of clients and on non-profit boards and committees including on the Ronald McDonald House Charities Board of Directors and on its Governance Committee (Chair) and Strategic Planning Committee, on the Canadian Pharmacists Association Board of Directors and on its Governance and Nominating Committee and on the Ontario Telemedicine Network Board of Directors and on its Board Development and Governance Committee and Business Advisory Committee.
Murray and his wife Marilyn reside in the North York community.
