Vice President, Clinical Programs, Quality and Risk, Chief Nursing Executive
With passion, commitment and professionalism, Karyn has dedicated over 30 years to the patients, family, staff, physicians and volunteers of North York General.
Karyn joined the hospital as a clinical nurse in Orthopedics & Plastic Surgery before working 13 years in the Emergency Department. She was promoted to Clinical Nurse Educator and Manager for the Emergency Services Program, later transitioning into other leadership roles including Program Director for Emergency Services, Medicine and Critical Care, and most recently Vice President.
As Vice President, Karyn's portfolio consists of the following clinical programs: Emergency, Mental Health, Surgery, Medicine, Critical Care, Cancer Care and Ambulatory Services. Her portfolio also includes Patient Experience & Quality and Risk Management.
As the Chief Nurse Executive, Karyn is supportive of the nursing profession and all health professionals. She builds and fosters a professional practice environment that is supportive of interprofessional education and collaborative learning.
Karyn holds her Emergency Nursing Certification (ENC), a Bachelor's Degree in Health Studies from York University in Toronto, and a Master's degree in Health Studies from Athabasca University in Alberta. She is an adjunct professor in the Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing at the University of Toronto. Karyn is a certified Health Services Executive at the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL) and a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).
Her passion for advancing the quality of health care was recognized in 2011 when Karyn became a Surveyor for Accreditation Canada where she plays an integral role in driving national system performance improvement.
