NYGH wins Gold Quality Workplace Award
November 7, 2012

For 3 consecutive years, North York General Hospital (NYGH) proudly accepted a Gold Quality Healthcare Workplace Award at the Ontario Hospital Association's (OHA) 2012 HealthAchieve conference on November 6, 2012. The awards program recognizes organizational efforts to improve healthcare workplaces in ways that contribute to providers' quality of work life and the quality of care and services they deliver.
Canadian Family Physician Best Original Research Award
July 23, 2012

In July 2012, the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) and their Research and Education Foundation (REF) awarded Dr. Michelle Griever their 2012 Canadian Family Physician Best Original Research Article Award. This award is given for a scientific article published in 2011 in Canadian Family Physician (CFP) resulting from a research project developed, financed, and completed by the authors.

Dr. Griever's article “Implementation of electronic medical records: Effect on the provision of preventive services in a pay-for-performance environment', was published in October 2011.
Dr. Stan Feinberg Recipient of Robert Mustard Mentorship Award
June 15, 2012

Dr. Stan Feinberg, Chief of Surgery at North York General Hospital was recently awarded the "Robert Mustard Mentorship Award" from the Division of Surgery at the University of Toronto. This award recognizes a physician mentor who is devoted to excellence in clinical training, and who provides exemplary teaching, leadership, mentorship and expertise to senior general surgery residents from the University of Toronto. The award is voted on by these residents and is given out on an annual basis. It is the most prestigious teaching award in the Division of General Surgery.

North York General Hospital's Branson Site – Containment Challenge Winner!

In an effort to increase influenza immunization rates, the 2011-12 influenza season was kicked off with a challenge targeted at health care workers in Toronto health care facilities. North York General Hospital's Branson Site has received recognition for achieving the most improved rate of health care worker influenza immunization in a Toronto acute care facility. The award is presented by the Toronto Board of Health. Congratulations Branson!

Lena Bell Recipient of Clinical Educator's Professional Development Values-In-Action Award
June 1, 2012

NYGH's Lena Bell is the recipient of the Michener's 2011 Annual Clinical Educator's Professional Development Values-In-Action Award. This award is presented to individuals and teams who, through specific actions, are practicing Michener's values.

Lena is the Clinical Coordinator of General X-Ray and Mammography in Medical Imaging at the General Site and was nominated by Michener students. Receiving this award demonstrates Lena's commitment to the profession and to the hospital's learning strategy.

Peters-Boyd Academy Awards

North York General Hospital is a partner in the Peters-Boyd Academy, one of four academies training medical students at the University of Toronto. Other Peters-Boyd Academy hospitals include Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and Women's College Hospital. Green Initiative Saves Water One Elevator Ride at a Time

North York Genera Hospital is doing its part to make our hospital greener. Our goal is to reduce health care's environmental impact by becoming an energy efficient health-care facility that produces less pollution, and uses less water and energy.

Dr. David Kaplan Named New Primary Care Lead for Central LHIN
February 9, 2012

In a major step toward strengthening and further integrating primary care into local health planning, the Central LHIN named Dr. David Kaplan, Deputy Family Physician-in-Chief at North York General Hospital, as their Primary Care Lead. The introduction of Primary Care Leads in each of the province's LHINs is a new initiative supported by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and the Ontario Medical Association.
