Executive Compensation Overview

North York General Hospital has a comprehensive executive compensation program which is supported by an executive talent management and performance planning approach.

Performance Assessment Components:

Talent Management Assessment

In 2008 North York General implemented the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) Talent Management Program. This program has been in place since then and includes an annual assessment of the senior team members' demonstration of executive leadership competencies.

Executive Compensation Quality Improvement Plan:

As a result of the Excellent Care For All Act, a performance-based plan was implemented effective April 1, 2011 for the Senior Leadership Team based on the following target measures:

  • Quality Improvement Plan Targets
  • Organizational Achievement of a Balanced Budget
  • Specific Individual Attainment of Specific Objectives

For each of our executives, a percentage of compensation is linked to achievement of performance targets, which will be used to determine the magnitude of the performance allocation.

The following roles in our Senior Leadership Team are included in this process:

President and CEO: 10%  of base compensation
Vice Presidents: 5%  of base compensation

Broader Public Sector Executive Compensation Framework

Established under the Broader Public Sector Executive Compensation Act, 2014, the Executive Compensation Framework regulation updated in September 2016, sets out new requirements that designated BPS employers must meet when setting executive compensation. In June 2017, the Treasury Board Secretariat introduced a six-step approval process required for each BPS organizations' new executive compensation program to be set.

North York General complied with the new six-step approval process. As a result, effective April 25, 2018, North York General Hospital has implemented a new Executive Compensation Plan.

The following roles in our Leadership Team were included in this process:

President and CEO
Vice Presidents
