Over 20% of the patients we see in the Charlotte & Lewis Steinberg Emergency are children. With all its activity, the Emergency Department (ED) can be a frightening place for a child. As a Regional Children's Health Centre, we strive to make our facilities as child friendly as possible.
The Emergency Department has:
A decorated waiting area for children, separate from the main waiting room. It is equipped with tables and chairs, interactive toys, TV with DVD, and Nintendo machines.
Four specially designed spacious paediatric treatment areas equipped with flat screen TVs with DVDs, Nintendo and age specific toys. All of these enhancements assist in lessening the fears of children and their families while they wait.
Subacute treatment area for children
- A paediatric resuscitation room with state-of the art equipment. If a child is brought to the resuscitation room, both parents can be present. We assist them emotionally during this difficult time and can count on the great support from social workers and the Spiritual & Religious Care team.
Our Child and Teen and Mental Health programs work together to offer extensive mental health services that meet the special needs of children and adolescents.
The Mental Health Program offers an Urgent Care Clinic
that provides urgent assessment for children and adolescents in crisis.
