Oncology and Palliative Care Inpatient Unit

North York General Hospital's dedicated inpatient unit (3 West) serves patients with cancer who require acute care. We serve patients from initial diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up to end-of-life care. We provide high quality and compassionate care centred on patients and their families.

Members of our interprofessional team include nurses, physicians, clinical team manager, unit coordinator, social workers, a physiotherapist, an occupational therapist, a dietitian, pharmacists, chaplains, unit secretaries, Community Care Access Centre team members, volunteers and other members of the health-care team. Our team members have additional training in oncology and palliative care.

You will be assigned a nurse who is dedicated to your ongoing assessment and care, and works with the interprofessional team to meet all your care needs.

For your comfort

For the convenience of our patients and their loved ones, there is a kitchenette with a toaster, microwave, fridge and kettle. You are welcome to store your food here, but please make sure it is clearly marked. Labels are available at the nursing station.

You can visit our patient and family lounge that has a TV, couches and table for quiet time.

Visiting hours
Visiting hours are from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sometimes the nature of a patient’s illness may require visits outside of regular visiting hours, and we will make every effort to accommodate your needs. Please speak with your nurse to discuss any request.
